Day One

Well today was the day! The Captain was officially hooked up to the "C Drugs"! His spirits are high, ready to do battle and conquer! Our nurse is Annie, awesome, professional, will remain with us for the three days and very kind to the Captain. We have a nice bed in a semi private room overlooking the "big city." Mark has bought every newspaper available so that will keep our patient and Mark busy for a while. To the pass the time we watched Opening Day and the Red Sox beat the Rays. We had a great view of the "planes flying over Fenway." We head back in tomorrow for round 2. Thank you for all the messages. Keep them coming!

  1. Hey Mr. G,
I'm thinking about you every day, and you're always in my prayers. I know you're going to come out of this stronger than ever. I'm sure you had days working at Govoni and Sons that were harder than this...this will be a piece of cake for you. Keep fighting and I can't wait to see you soon.

    Love you Big Guy,
    Billy D

  2. Thought you might need some words of wisdom as you head into day 2. Just think, what would Bill Belichick do? Here's one from the coach:

"Football is a game where everybody gets knocked down sooner or later – usually sooner. Then you get up and then you get knocked down again. That's what football is. It's a lot like life in some respects. You're always going to have to deal with some form of adversity. Every play is not an 80-yard touchdown. Every play is not a strip sack. Maybe how one person handles it at one point and how they handle it at a different point, maybe that is the same. Maybe it isn't. But, everybody goes through it. Just like it's part of life." 21 sept 2005

  8. Hi Uncle,

While you were getting your meds today, Drew and I were fixing his vacuum!! He had all his tools handy and ready to get to work!!! A true Govoni!!! Once that was done, he wanted to go outside and clean up all Jackson's poops. We love you and will be sending you more Drew updates.
    Love ya, Paulette

  9. Donnie,
This is a voice from the past, but I think of you and Barbara often. I'm an hour into trying to figure out how to blog. I made one attempt to post but never made it to your page. So if this ends up as multiple posts, I'm sorry. They didn't teach this course at St. A's! I need to get with the times . . . Sorry to hear about the challenge that you face, but if anyone can rally from this, I know you can. In 2006 I had a bout with prostate cancer, but things look ok. We must have eaten too much Dinty Moore beef stew at Dubuque Street! I knew that place would take a toll on us eventually. We need to catch up on some past years. Cindy and I wish you the best and our prayers go out to you and your family. We will stay in touch through this blog if I can figure out how to do it! Go Hawk!!!
